Netflix signs up a female comedian

In a battle of comedians, Netlfix has signed up Aditi Mittal as the first female comedian

Netflix and Amazon Prime, the two online television and video giants seem to have a new twist to their hustle that has been going on for quite some time.

Amazon opened up on standup comedy in January 2017, having exclusive videos of 14 comedians, all of them being males.

Apparently, it did cause some short lived chaos. Anupama Copra, an Indian author and journalist raised a question about this while an Interview for Film Companion and was said that this was because of the deal between Amazon and Only Much Louder (OML).

Only Much Louder is a new media enterprise and manages a number of female comedians as well; Mallika Dua, Sumukhi Suresh, and Kaneez Surkha for instance.

(In a Facebook post, Mallika later pointed out that Sumukhi wasn’t ready with her 1-hour special for Amazon as she was busy with a film commitment).

Later, Amazon’s competitor and a master in the domain, Netflix announced signing up of a female comedian, Aditi Mittal for a stand up special.

Aditi Mittal seems overwhelmed and had this to say: “Having a platform like Netflix is a dream come true for anyone in entertainment and comedy today. Even while I give this quote for the press release I have to pinch myself to confirm that this is real. The journey of this show has been absolutely exhilarating. I hope Netflix fans all over the world will enjoy the show as much as I have in making it.”

Aditi has been sharing videos on Youtube on female hush subjects taking a bold step ahead. She has had an amazing response from videos all across the country.

The Netflix show will be titled “Things They Wouldn’t Let Me Say “ and will debut on Netflix on 18 July to the company’s 100 million members that span 190 countries.

Earlier in May, Vir Das became the first Indian comedian to have his own special on Netflix.

The stand-up comedy genre seems to be predominantly dominated by male artists though we are seeing quite a good number of girls coming out and joining the gang. Having an Indian female stand-up comedian on an International Platform like Netflix is definitely very reassuring here.
